BR Agribusiness GDP 1994 to 2010
Monthly Growth Rate, Values of Brazilian Agribusiness GDP (by segments) and its share in the Brazilian Total GDP – 1994 to 2010
About the Methodology
The new methodology elaborated by Cepea, in partnership with the National Confederation for Agriculture (CNA), allows the figuring and the elaboration of a monthly report of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the agriculture/livestock and agribusiness sectors.
That new methodology solved the problem of the double counting, usually found in calculation of the GDP. The Cepea Index for GDP is one of the most important Indexes for the rural activity development.
The applied methodology considers the instructions of the United Nations for the figuring of the GDP, adopting the matrix of inputs-products the New System of National Counts (NSCN), of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) as basic instrument of analysis for delineating the Brazilian Agribusiness.
To individuate the sub-sectors of the agriculture and livestock, it was taken data of the agriculture-livestock census, of 1995. The figuring of the Agribusiness GDP involves, besides the primary agriculture and livestock sectors, the global agribusiness (factories, stocking, transportation, processing, industrialization and logistic).
Definitions
It is taken as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) the production value of final land properties and services, deducing the intermediary consumption. The agriculture/livestock and agribusiness GDP is calculated by the view of the added value, at market prices, computing the net indirect taxes and deducing the financial dummy.
The GDP of the agriculture/livestock, composed by the agriculture and livestock activities, indicates the added value of the primary production (inside the farm).
The Agribusiness term was coined by Davis & Goldberg (1957) as being the "sum total of all operations involved in the manufacturing and distribution of farm supplies; production operation on the farm; and the storage, processing and distribution of farm commodities and items made from them."
The Agribusiness of Agriculture and Livestock, in this study, is composed of 10 and 3 industries, in that order.
The variations accumulated in the year are calculated in relation to the consolidated values of the previous year, while the monthly variations indicate the month contribution to the accumulated variation.
