The perspectives for the Brazilian sugar market are positives for the 2007 crop season and also for the next ones. Even with prices drop in the international market, sugar should keep the position of one of the most important Brazilian commodities, in 2007.
The first production estimative of Unica (Sao Paulo Sugar Cane Agroindustry Union), about the 2007/08 crop should be released in April. Considering an increase of 10 percent in the planted area, it is expected a higher production, even if the productivity reduce.
In the first ten days of the year, prices in the domestic market kept almost unchanged, with the CEPEA/ESALQ Index (Sao Paulo state) closing at 17.25 dollars per bag of 50 kilos this Thursday, January 11.
