Brazilian prices stop moving up

After more than two months moving up, Brazilian corn prices decreased a little in the end of June, to around 16.70 reals or 7.50 dollars per bag of 60 kilos, according to the Esalq/BM&F Index for corn (Campinas city, São Paulo state).

The lack of rain has affected the corn crop areas in Paraná state, especially the late ones. The harvest reached 7.8 percent of the 987.5 thousand hectares cultivated this season in that state, according to Seab (Paraná Agricultural Secretariat). It is the same percentage of the last year's one, but with an area 36.3 percent larger. The production is forecasted at 3.35 million tones, and the productivity, in 3,397 kilos per hectare, above the last five season's average, of 3,124.6 kilos per hectare.
