Dry weather can affect 2007/08 crop production

It rained in Brazilian coffee areas, but not enough to recover the low soil moisture. The main concern is about the possibility of lack of rain from August on, when the first blooming starts to show up for the next crop production (2007/08).

In the domestic market, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for arabica coffee increased 6.3 percent from August 1st to 11, at 106.06 dollars per bag of 60 kilos (delivered in Sao Paulo, capital). For the robusta coffee, the Index averaged 76.33 dollars per bag, up 4.45 percent in the month.
