Exports increase even with the stronger Real

Brazilian corn exports keep increasing this year. According to Secex (Brazilian government), in June, Brazil exported 346.15 thousand tons, 16.7 percent more than in May and five times higher than the volume exported in January. In the first semester, corn exports amounted to 1.2 million tons. Even with the Real valuation against the dollar, Brazilian exports should keep growing.

Export corn prices, in turn, are inferior to those from 2005. In June, the value was of 114.70 dollar per ton, 38.4 percent lower than the same month of the last year. Besides that, the exchange rate in June was 6.88 percent inferior to the same period of last year. This explains why domestic corn prices were 19.45 percent lower from June of last year.
