Firm prices in Brazil

Cotton prices have remained firm in Brazil. Growers are retreated, focusing on accomplishing contracts.

The CEPEA/ESALQ Index closed at 60.58 dollar a pound this Wednesday, Oct 18, increase 3.58% in relation to Sept 29.

The domestic market is still remunerating more than exports, which remain moving at a slow pace.

According to the National Company for Food Supply (Conab), cotton cultivated area in 2006/07 season should enlarge from 12 to 18 percent in Brazil, totaling between 1.2 and 1.3 million tons. In Mato Grosso state, the increase should reach 26 percent.
