The restricted Brazilian sugar supply and the high levels of international prices have been supporting domestic quotations in this harvesting period. From May 30th to June 30th, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index (Sao Paulo state) increased 0.42 percent in Real, closing at 26.25 reals or 16.44 dollars per bag of 50 kilos on Monday, Jun 30th.
According to the Unica, from the beginning of this crop (2008/09) to June 1st, 61.6 percent of the sugarcane was destined to the fuel and 38.39 percent, to the sugar. Until that date, it was processed 75.5 million tons in the Center-Southern region, increasing 5.19 percent over the same period of 2007/08 crop.
Regarding the price parity calculated by Cepea, the anhydrous ethanol remunerated 7 percent more than the sugar between Jun 23rd and 27th. For the hydrated, this type remunerated 1 percent more than the sugar. At the end of May, the anhydrous remunerated 4 percent more than the sugar. For the hydrated, the sugar remunerated more than this type of ethanol, 13 percent. (Cepea - Brazil)
