The low supply in the spot market boosted Brazilian sugar prices during the fourth month of harvest in the Center-Southern region. Between June 30th and July 31st, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for crystal sugar (Sao Paulo state) increased 7.74 percent in Real, closing the period at 28.27 reals or 18.10 dollars per bag of 50 kilos. From the beginning of this crop until July 31st, the Index remained almost unchanged.
Regarding the price parity calculated by Cepea in Sao Paulo state, the anhydrous ethanol remunerated 9 percent more than the sugar between July 21st and 25th. In relation to the hydrated, the sugar kept remunerating more, in 6 percent. In the same period, domestic trades (Sao Paulo state) remunerated 12 percent more than exports, according to Cepea.(Cepea - Brazil)
