From the end of June on, corn and soybean growers keep focused on the input prices. For the 2007/08 crop, the valuation of the Real against the dollar brings good news for Brazilian growers concerning chemicals and seeds. Regarding fertilizer, however, the scenario is not so positive for growers - prices in dollar have been increasing more than the valuation of the Real.
During the last week of June, few trades were settled in the Brazilian corn market. Prices, in turn, dropped a little. Between June 25th and 29th, the ESALQ/BM&F Index (Campinas region) dropped 2 percent in Real and 0.8 percent in dollar, at 19.01 reals or 9.85 dollars per bag of 60 kilos on Friday, June 29th. From May 31st to June 29th, the Index decreased 3.4 percent in Real and 3.6 percent in dollar.
