In the second fortnight March, Brazilian coffee buyers were focused on new robusta grains, as harvest activities from 2009/10 start in Espírito Santo and Rondônia states. Some of them showed interest in trade volumes to delivery between April and May. The supply should increase more expressively from the second fortnight of April on.
Between March 16th and 31st, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for robusta type 6, in the origin Espírito Santo state, dropped 1.98 percent, closing at 207.63 reals or 89.57 dollars per bag of 60 kilos on March 31st. In the same period, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for arabica type 6, delivered in Sao Paulo (capital) valuated 3.5 percent, closing at 267.69 reals or 115.48 dollars per bag of 60 kilos on March 31st.
Growers from Espírito Santo and Rondônia, main states producer of robusta, started to harvest early grains. However, agents expect superior quality from April on, when the product should be valuated compared to 2008/09 crop. (Cepea - Brazil).
