Hailstorm can reduce the 2008/09 crop even more

Recent hailstorms damaged coffee fields in some areas of Minas Gerais state - the main Brazilian coffee producer. This scenario could reduce the 2008/09 crop production even more.

In Vietnam, the main global producer of robusta coffee, the Hagibis storm at the beginning of last week did not damaged fields. Therefore, futures of Euronext.Liffe (London) moved down.

The CEPEA/ESALQ Index for arabica type 6, delivered in Sao Paulo (capital) closed at 253.16 reals or 141.19 dollars per bag on Nov 30th, up 5.6 percent in Real over Oct 31st. For robusta type 6, in the origin Espirito Santo state, the Index averaged 207.14 reals or 115.53 dollars per bag, up slight 0.6 percent in the same period.
