Higher prices for orange delivered in processors’ plants

Brazilian juice processors increased prices paid to growers for the orange delivered in their plants. New values go from 8.00 to 9.00 reals per box of 40.8 kilos (around 4.00 dollars per box), from 7.50 reals per box paid in the first quarter of the month. The increase suggests that processors need more orange to crush this year, even knowing the current crop production is larger - around 340 million boxes, from 300 million boxes last season.

In relation to long term contracts, no agreement has been settled after two months of negotiation between representatives of the two parts. Some growers started to negotiate prices on their own, asking the minimal of 4.00 dollars per box. In the last season, long term contracts oscillated between 2.80 to 4.00 dollars per box.
