Higher prices in August, but downward trend in the last weeks

Brazilian cotton prices opened August moving up, supported by the smaller supply. In the end of the month, however, the situation inverted, with a larger supply and retreated buyers. Even so, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for cotton upped 6 percent in the month, closing the period around 0.61 dollar a pound.

Exports keep moving at a slow pace. Contracts were settled in the end of the month at 0.5745 dollar a pound for the cotton from 2006/07 crop season and at 0.5878 dollar a pound for 2007/08 one.
