From now on, Brazilian coffee prices move according to the climate. Due to the La Liña phenomenon, temperatures are already lower. Besides that, agents also have been keeping focused on the harvest beginning of the 2008/09 crop.
In the state of Rondônia, robusta activities started to be intensified in April and are expected to finish in July. However, the rainfalls were a problem to the harvesting in the second fortnight of April. According to local agents, the best grains should be harvested from May on.
Arabica harvesting, which has started basically in the state of Paraná, remains moving slowly. Only some grains have already reached the ideal point of maturation. Moreover, rains also have been a problem for these activities.
In general terms, trades moved at a slow pace during April. The CEPEA/ESALQ Index for the arabica type 6, delivered in Sao Paulo (capital) closed at 255.26 reals or 153.49 dollars per bag of 60 kilos on Wednesday, April 30th, increasing slight 2.23 percent in Real over March 31st. On the other hand, for the robusta type 6, in the origin Espirito Santo state, there was a decrease of 6.35 percent in Real, at 213.12 reals or 128.16 dollars per bag. (Cepea - Brazil)
