Corn market keeps focused on the weather in Brazil and its possible effects at the winter crop. During the third week of May, the first cold front, of higher intensity, came to the Southerner, Center-Westerner, and Southeastern regions.
It frosted in Paraná state on May 24 and also this Friday in important producer regions of winter corn crop. Until the moment, however, frosts did not damage the production. It important to remember that other cold fronts should come, since we are still at the end of May, when frosts usually do not take place.
Due to the possibility of a new scenario of prices in Brazil - higher values in the second semester if the winter corn crop reduces -, growers traded at a slow pace the summer crop production. Between April 30th and May 31st, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index (Campinas region) upped 5 percent in Real, averaging 19.67 reals or 10.14 dollars per bag of 60 kilos this Thursday, May 31st.
