Period leads to growers’ retreat

Brazilian cotton price kept firm during the end of November, supported by the lower supply and the higher demand. As usual for this period of the year, growers are focused on planting activities of 2006/07 crop. Some of them also remain committed to accomplishing contracts. Between November 23 and 30, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index upped 2 percent, closing the period at 0.6043 dollar a pound. In the accumulated of the month, the increase reaches 2.1 percent.

The support also comes from the increasing international prices, the devaluation of the Real against the dollar and from higher values of import and export parities.
