Most part of Brazilian robusta coffee growers have already started the 2007/08 crop harvest in the state of Espirito Santo. Prices are between 185.00 and 188.00 real per bag of 60 kilos. Good weather conditions since the blooming stage - from September to November - have provided high coffee grain quality.
A larger volume should enter the market from the end of this month on. Brazil should harvest between 9.7 and 9.9 million bags of robusta, according to the the National Company for Food Supply (Conab - Brazilian government) report published in December - the next result should be available this Friday, April 20.
Concerning trades, growers kept retreated in the last days, waiting for higher values. The CEPEA/ESALQ Index for arabica averaged 236.60 reals or 116.15 dollars per bag of 60 kilos this Monday, April 16th, down 3.2 percent in Real and 2 percent in dollar over March 30th. For robusta, the Index averaged 199.09 reals or 97.74 dollars per bag, decreasing 1 percent in Real and keeping stable in dollar considering the same period.
