The robusta coffee supply from the 2008/09 crop of the Espírito Santo state should start to be available, little by little, from the second fortnight of April on. In the state of Rondônia (second main national producer of this variety), the grain from the new season has already been traded since March. For the arabica coffee, the harvesting should be intensified in May. However, in Minas Gerais state, the most important producer of this variety, the activities will be intensified only in June, when increasing the possibility of frost in this area.
At this moment, agents are focused on the climate. This year, the cold weather should arrive earlier (around June) and with a higher intensity in the Southern and Southeastern regions, due to the La Niña phenomenon.
For a while, the domestic coffee market has been moving at a slow pace. The CEPEA/ESALQ Index for the arabica type 6, delivered in Sao Paulo (capital) closed at 260.40 reals or 154.72 dollars per bag of 60 kilos on Tuesday, April 15th, increasing 4.3 percent in Real over March 31st. For the robusta type 6, in the origin Espirito Santo state, there was a decrease of 0.53 percent in Real, at 226.36 reals or 134.50 dollars per bag. (Cepea - Brazil)
