Spot prices for June are the highest in 14 years

From June 2nd to 30th, orange prices of the fruit delivered at plants (spot market) in Sao Paulo state averaged 9.72 reals or 6.00 dollars per box of 40.8 kilos, the highest value for the period since October 1994.

Traditionally this period is marked by lower prices due to the higher supply. In this year, however, the volume available is still low, due to the irregular blooming in the second semester last year (drought).

In the fresh fruit market, the cold weather kept limiting trades in June. Between May 30th and Jun 30th, the pera orange decreased 2.6 percent in Real in wholesale market at Sao Paulo city, averaging 11.53 reals or 7.21 dollars per box of 40.8 kilos (on tree) on Jun 30th .

Concerning the tahiti lime market, the lower supply remained boosting the prices. On Jun 30th, this variety was traded at 6.50 reals or 4.06 dollars per box of 27 kilos, (harvested), up 24.5 percent in Real over May 30th. (Cepea - Brazil)
