Supply from the new crop starts to enlarge

Some arabica coffee from the 2008/09 crop started to be available in the first fortnight of July. The dry weather has been favoring the harvest. However, the supply is still considered low.

Concerning the robusta coffee, activities were already concluded in the states of Rondônia and Espírito Santo. At the same time, there is a significant quantity of the grain in stock.

In general terms, few trades were settled at the beginning of this month. Besides the low supply, the successive decreases at the New York Board of Trade (ICE Futures) also limited trades both in the domestic and international coffee markets.

The CEPEA/ESALQ for the arabica type 6, delivered in Sao Paulo (capital), closed at 250.92 reals or 158.01 dollars per bag of 60 kilos on Tuesday, Jul 15th, decreasing 5 percent in Real over Jun 30th. The decrease could be linked to the weather conditions in Brazil. Even with the lower temperatures, coffee fields were not damaged by frosts. For the robusta type 6, in the origin Espírito Santo state, the Index kept almost unchanged during the same period (slight decrease of 0.08 percent in Real), at 217.32 reals or 136.85 dollars per bag on Jul 15th.
