Brazilian corn prices decreased with more intensity at the end of May. The pressure came from the harvesting of the winter crop (the second crop), which should be a record this year. Besides that, growers offered a higher volume, intending to avoid trading at even lower values. Regarding exports, the rhythm traditionally increases in the second semester.
Between April 30th and May 30th the ESALQ/BM&F Index (Campinas region) decreased 5.87 percent, closing at 25.78 reals or 15.82 dollars per bag of 60 kilos on Friday. Only from May 23rd and 30th, the decrease was of 4.6 percent. In some regions, prices have already returned to the levels of September/October 2007. (Cepea - Brazil)
