Methodology

Product specification:

cassava root, 25% starch, delivered at cassava processing plants, based on the following samplings:

Hydrostatic balance 3 kg – between 330g and 360g = average 345 grams

Hydrostatic balance 5 kg – between 550g and 600g = average 575 grams

Unity of measurement/currency: ton. The average is originally calculated in BRL, but it is also released in US dollar. It is a simple conversion of the value in Real to dollars – commercial exchange rate, asking price at 4:30 p.m. (Brasilia time);
Payment deadline: released values refer to a 28-day deadline;
Discount rate:  Values are converted into a 28-day term payment by discounting the NPR (Rural Promissory Note) rate;
Statistical treatment: the regional averages are calculated based on the sample data between two standard deviations up or down compared to the sample average, and on the variation coefficient analysis;
Taxes: 2.3% CESSR (former-Funrural) included;
Regions where information is collected: LSC (Southern Coast of Santa Catarina: Capivari de Baixo region), AIC (Alto Vale do Itajaí: Rio do Sul region), EOP (Extreme West of Paraná: Marechal Cândido Rondon region – including Realeza region), COP (Centralwestern Paraná: Araruna region), NOP (Northwestern Paraná: region of Paranavaí), ESM (Extreme South of Mato Grosso do Sul: Naviraí region), SOM (Southwestern Mato Grosso do Sul: Ivinhema region) and ASS (Assis region);
Cepea average:  average of the regions mentioned above;
Historic:  since January 2002;
Agents consulted for the survey: 

Rural growers and agents from cassava starch and cassava flour companies, consuming industry and dealers, thorugh phone contact.
